Here’s what you need to know in preparation for your first day.
All new employees receive two emails from Workday, the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). These emails are sent shortly after you have signed your offer letter and contain essential information to make your first day seamless, including MSU Denver login credentials and a checklist of items to be completed prior to your first day.
To ensure these communications do not get caught in your junk or spam folders, we recommend adding the email address to your contacts: [email protected]. Both communications will come from MSU Denver ERP.
Day 1 Orientation will review the most important items a new employee needs to know on their first day. New employees will leave the session with a comprehensive checklist of important items to be completed on key milestone dates – first week, 30 days and 60 days
NEO Dates
July through December – 2024
What you can expect for your first day
What can I expect on my first day?
On Day 1, every employee begins their career at MSU Denver by attending New Employee Orientation (NEO). During this 2-hour session, employees become acquainted with the University’s culture and review important need-to-know information.
As part of NEO, employees also take a short walking tour to see some campus highlights and visit the ID station to receive their employee badge.
How long will I be in orientation?
New Employee Orientation is held most Mondays between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. After NEO, employees are encouraged to check in with their manager to finish out their first day and plan the rest of their week.
What should I wear on Day 1?
MSU Denver believes it is important to dress for your day. Business casual attire is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes are also encouraged on your first day, as the NEO session will include a walk to retrieve your ID card.
What should I bring on Day 1?
New employees are reminded to bring their I9 documents and anything else that has been discussed between the employee and their manager. Equipment necessary to perform job duties, such computers, laptops, headsets, etc., will be managed on Day 1.
Where do I go on my first day?
Unless otherwise noted, new employees should plan to attend New Employee Orientation, which is typically held most Mondays.
Where should I park?
Employees can park at any of the nearby parking lots or garages on the Auraria Campus. Parking on campus is paid parking. Employees who plan to park on campus should register their vehicles with the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) at least 24 hours before attending NEO to receive a discounted parking fee. More specific information about parking will be included in the onboarding communication sent one week before your start date.

When will I receive my first paycheck?
MSU Denver employees are paid monthly. Pay dates are typically the last business day of the month. More to come about pay schedules in NEO.
Who do I reach out to if I have a question before Day 1?
If you have a question prior to your first day, please send an email to [email protected].
In addition to the two emails from Workday with credential information, new employees will receive another set of emails approximately one week before their start date to the email address on file. These communications will come from Onboarding and Orientation and will outline everything you need to know for your first day, including meeting location and acceptable forms of I9 documentation.
Employees will receive four communications via email prior to their first day:
Emails 1 and 2: from Workday ERP ([email protected])
Emails 3 and 4: from Onboarding and Orientation ([email protected])
